Increasing the daily amount of high quality forages in the lactating ration can improve rumen health and reduce feed costs per hundredweight of milk produced.
Monitoring forage lab analysis for nutrient energy levels is critical to determine which forages to offer the milking herd.
Harvesting forages based on correct plant maturity and moisture plus proper storage management will have a significant effect on forage quality.
Understanding the forage nutrient analysis is important to correctly allocate other feeds needed to fill the cow's daily dietary needs.
